Chapter 231: Farewell, May Lawrence

Chapter 231: Chapter 231: Farewell, May Lawrence

Nora Northwood decided to meet May Lawrence.

She called a taxi, and the lights inside the car were off, revealing only the tense outline of her profile.

She fastened her seatbelt and gave the driver the address to Silvercreek.

About twenty minutes later, the car stopped at the entrance of a narrow alley.

The alley was so narrow that only two people could walk side by side; the taxi couldn’t drive in.

Nora paid the fare and got out of the car.

From a corner came a few "meow" sounds, mixed with the faint splashes of water.

Nora looked for the source of the sound and found a stray cat playing by the ditch. She watched it for a bit.

Returning to this place again, she felt quite sentimental.

The dark apartment building hid Nora’s complex expression from sight.

Before entering, she sent Jasper Sinclair her location.

May Lawrence was about to rest when she heard the doorbell from the living room. She thought it was debt collectors, hardly daring to breathe, until she heard a familiar voice.

"It’s Nora Northwood."

May’s anxious expression changed instantly when she saw it was indeed Nora, so quickly it seemed like an illusion.

"Nora, what brings you here so late?"

"I have a question for you. What was the name of the person who interviewed you?"

Seeing this, May cautiously tested the waters, saying, "She gave me ten thousand dollars not to tell anyone."

Her implication was: you need to pay as well.

Nora’s gaze was dark, with unfathomable undertones.

"If your answer satisfies me, I will naturally pay the corresponding reward."

May pursed her lips, "I don’t know her name, just a female reporter."

No name?

Nora was stumped.

While thinking of how to continue the questions, her phone screen lit up, and the screensaver photo caught her eye.

She quickly opened the search engine and went through photos of various suspects.

She enlarged Yuna Hughes’ photo and asked May, "Is it this person?"

May shook her head.

The second enlarged photo was Rachel Woodward.

May suddenly remembered something and didn’t answer, instead, she said, "If I answer your question well, can you..."

Nora automatically ignored that sentence; afterward, no matter whose photo she presented, May stubbornly refused to speak.

However, after living with May for over twenty years, Nora knew her well enough.

In the end, Nora said, "Since you didn’t provide me with any clues, I won’t pay."

With that, she made as if to leave.

Seeing the money slipping away, May panicked and directly blocked Nora at the stairway, "I’ll tell, I’ll tell, it was the second woman!"

Nora slightly curled her lips, as it was the result she had expected.

Her tone was cool, "Too late, I no longer want the answer."

With that, she sidestepped May and walked away.

In the corridor, May’s cursing voice echoed: "Nora, you can’t play me like this!"

Coming out of the apartment, Nora saw a tall, burly figure standing at the alley entrance.

The dim streetlight elongated Jasper Sinclair’s shadow.

Meeting Jasper’s gaze, Nora felt much relieved, and as she walked toward him, a smile reappeared on her lips.

In the silent night, two pounding hearts drew quietly closer.

Jasper lowered his eyes to look at Nora and asked, "How did the conversation go?"
