Chapter 171: Chapter 171: Five Million for Her Security
"What are you worried about? Just go boldly." Megan Underwood gave her a thumbs up.
With those words, Nora Northwood felt relieved.
She contacted the person who had invited her and nodded in agreement to the matter.
Seeing there was nothing much happening at the studio, she went straight home after work.
Today, Jasper Sinclair had some business matters to deal with, so he’d be returning home a bit late.
When she got back, May Lawrence was sitting on the sofa watching TV, and Mrs. Walker was busy in the kitchen.
"Nora, you’re back. Just in time, your mom has something to talk to you about." May Lawrence warmly beckoned her over.
Nora was startled for a moment, but still, she went over and sat down.
She wondered what May wanted to say this time.
Just then, Mrs. Walker came out with the bird’s nest soup she had cooked for her and the washed fruit.
"You silly girl, not taking care of your health, working so hard. You’re still working even when you’re sick." Mrs. Walker grumbled, placing the bird’s nest soup in her hands without allowing any refusal.
"Yes, yes, Mrs. Walker, you’re right. Next time I’ll definitely listen."
She chuckled lightly. Although she had applied light makeup, it was still apparent that she looked fatigued.
May, sitting on the side, felt a bit awkward, as if she appeared incompetent as a mother in this situation.
That made her uncomfortable neither sitting nor standing.
Mrs. Walker glanced at her coldly. Though not intentional, Mrs. Walker felt quite pleased with herself inside.
This woman, being the young lady’s mother, treats a stepson better. She couldn’t bear to watch it anymore.
After saying this, she went back to the kitchen to continue her work.
"Your housekeeper is something else. I wanted to taste the bird’s nest soup as well, but she wouldn’t let me. She said it’s too expensive, that I can’t afford it. Ridiculous, my son-in-law is President Sinclair. How could I not afford it?"
May Lawrence couldn’t help complaining, feeling a pang of displeasure watching Nora eat the bird’s nest soup.
This wretched girl doesn’t know to show her some respect?
But Nora just slowly finished the bird’s nest soup.
"Mrs. Walker is someone from grandma’s side, and she wasn’t wrong. This bird’s nest wasn’t bought by Jasper; grandma brought it to nurture my body for future pregnancies."
She said it deliberately, while grandma indeed brought it just because she thought Nora was too thin and needed some nourishment.
When she finished speaking, May chuckled disdainfully.
"Isn’t it just bird’s nest? It’s like I’ve never seen it before. Something worth thousands, it’s not like I can’t afford it."
"Thousands? Mom, you’re mistaken there; I heard this bird’s nest costs over a thousand yuan per ounce." Nora intentionally mentioned the price, and sure enough, she saw the greed in May’s eyes.
This made May even more scheming, but she hadn’t forgotten what she wanted to discuss today.
"Nora, don’t mind what your mom says; it’s all for your own good."
"When men have money, they turn bad. All men are like that, especially President Sinclair."
"You foolish girl, you must demand something too. Otherwise, if a man doesn’t cherish you, you could end up with nothing when you’re abandoned."
"Mom suggests, why don’t you ask for five million, and let mom keep it for you. Even if you divorce in the future, you’ll have a safety net."
May Lawrence spoke with undisguised greed in her eyes.
Nora just felt a brief headache. Did May think she was stupid?
Five million? She really dared to ask.
"Mom, do you know what five million means?" Setting down the bowl, she leaned back on the sofa as she spoke.
"With five million, you could buy this house."
