Chapter 151 Confusion

Shi Xinxin did not expect any other outcome, so she found a comfortable position and snuggled into the quilt.

She lazily looked at Sheng Chenjin, her gaze lingering on his physique for a moment. "Then you can't possibly squeeze onto this small bed with me. I can't afford to have it collapse."

Sheng Chenjin's smile was somewhat self-satisfied. He leaned forward, feigning seriousness. "It's alright. I can afford a hundred of these beds if needed."

Shi Xinxin pushed his approaching head away, her expression stern. "Then think about it. If you push me off the bed in the middle of the night and I fall and disfigure my face, don't blame me for not remembering our past affections."

Sheng Chenjin's look of pleasant surprise faltered for a moment.

He quickly chuckled. "I was just kidding. You're the patient, how could I possibly share a bed with you? Even a beast wouldn't do that."

Thus, under Shi Xinxin's gaze, Sheng Chenjin opened the door to the room four or five meters away from the bathroom. He showed it to Shi Xinxin. "This is a VIP room, after all. There must be a spare room."

Shi Xinxin took a look. The room was about half the size of a ward, with complete bedding. It looked quite good.

"Then you should rest early too. I'm going to sleep now." Shi Xinxin was relieved about Sheng Chenjin's accommodation, but another issue immediately surfaced in her mind.

That was the new little mobile phone under the pillow.

Sheng Chenjin wanted to chat with Shi Xinxin for a bit longer before sleeping, but seeing how tired she was, with her eyes barely open, he felt a pang of sympathy and, without another word, took his quilt and went to the spare room.

He didn't close the door completely, so he could still see Shi Xinxin's position through the opening. However, due to the limited space, he couldn't see her from the waist up.

But just being able to sense her presence made Sheng Chenjin very happy.

The ward was completely dark, with only the bedside lamp and the moonlight from outside casting a faint halo on the floor.

Shi Xinxin lay stiffly on the hospital bed, motionless. The matter that weighed heavily on her mind gnawed at her like ants, but she restrained herself out of consideration for Sheng Chenjin, who was sleeping in the spare room.

With nothing to do, Shi Xinxin could only stare blankly at the mottled moonlight on the ceiling, occasionally catching glimpses of passing car headlights and flickering tree shadows.

After an unknown period, with only the ticking of the clock breaking the silence, Shi Xinxin subtly moved her limbs, her consciousness clear.

She sat up slightly, ensuring she made no sound, and called softly towards the adjacent room, "Sheng Chenjin?"

She was met with silence and the quiet night.

Shi Xinxin still dared not let down her guard. She leaned forward, reducing the distance, and her voice grew louder. "Sheng Chenjin, are you asleep?"

There was still silence.

Shi Xinxin slumped down, and the tension in her muscles immediately relaxed. She let out a sigh and, without delay, reached for the phone under the pillow.

The phone was turned off, likely deliberately set that way by Yan Hao to avoid detection. Shi Xinxin was almost certain that this phone was the tool Yan Hao used to contact Yin Xue.

Therefore, this phone must contain their chat records. Her hand holding the phone trembled slightly. A flicker of hope ignited within Shi Xinxin, and she pressed the power button with all her might.

The first thing she saw was the brightness of the phone screen after it powered on. Shi Xinxin was momentarily unaccustomed to it and raised her hand to shield her eyes.

Although this phone looked compact, its operating system and functions were much more fluid. In just over ten seconds, the phone displayed that it was fully powered on.

Shi Xinxin could hardly believe that investigating the truth could be so easy. She touched her chest, feeling her rapid heartbeat, mirroring her intense, anxious, yet expectant mood at that moment.

She tapped the messaging icon, but suddenly saw an unlock warning pop up on the screen.

What was going on?

Shi Xinxin's nerves immediately tensed. She tried again, disbelievingly, but the result was the same. To access messages, the phone owner had to unlock it personally.

This undoubtedly shattered the hope Shi Xinxin had held onto in an instant.

All her accumulated hope vanished at this moment, and the light before her eyes gradually faded. Shi Xinxin leaned heavily back onto the bed, her eyes filled with endless confusion.

The next day, as the sun rose in the sky, Sheng Chenjin woke up and his first thought was to check on Shi Xinxin.

Seeing that she was sleeping soundly, Sheng Chenjin went downstairs to buy breakfast with peace of mind.

A few minutes after he left the ward, Shi Xinxin's eyes fluttered open, still showing a dazed expression from just waking up.

But soon, she noticed her surroundings, and her bewildered thoughts began to sink.

Last night, she had stubbornly tried the phone several times, using various clever decryption methods, but to no avail.

It seemed Yan Hao had put a lot of effort into protecting the secrets within the phone. Shi Xinxin sighed inwardly. She had persevered for so long and would not give up now. It would just be a more troublesome investigation.

"Xinxin, you're awake? How's the injury on your hand?" Sheng Chenjin entered the ward, both hands laden with breakfast bags, the steam rising from them filling the room with a fragrant aroma.

Shi Xinxin was somewhat surprised, looking at the bags in his hands, which were too many to fit on a small round table.

"Did your appetite suddenly grow? Why so much breakfast..."

"I was afraid I wouldn't buy what you liked, so I just bought everything. Xinxin, try a bit of each and tell me which one is good, and I'll buy more for you."

His wealth was undeniable, but so was his affection. Although Shi Xinxin chided him for wasting food, she felt a sweetness in her heart.

The gloom and frustration of being unable to unlock the phone also lessened slightly.

Yan Hao arrived at the ward after they finished breakfast.

"Xinxin, how are you feeling this morning after waking up?"

As he entered, he greeted her as usual, holding a slip of paper, showing no sign of anything out of the ordinary.

Upon seeing him, Shi Xinxin's heart gave a jolt.

She quickly regained her composure and replied normally, "I don't feel unwell. I should be able to go home around noon."

Yan Hao nodded, saying nothing, and merely advised her to pay attention to her diet. Realizing that Shi Xinxin understood nutrition better than he did, he didn't elaborate further.

However, as he was about to leave, Yan Hao suddenly stopped and turned his head slightly. "Xinxin, did you see anything on the ground yesterday?"

"What?" Shi Xinxin replied instinctively.

Thinking that Yan Hao might be referring to the small mobile phone, she continued to feign ignorance and shook her head. "Other than the bowl I accidentally broke last night, I don't think there was anything else."

Yan Hao seemed to be contemplating something, but he didn't ask further. He nodded, turned, and left.
