Chapter 211: Chapter 211: Donations—Helping Those in Need

Silas Joyce, looking somber, said gentlemanly, "It’s okay, you handle your work first, we’ll meet at 1:30 this afternoon."

At 1:30 in the afternoon, meet at the old Monroe family estate.

After lunch.

Ivana Monroe arrived at the old Monroe family estate, where Silas Joyce and the people from the charity organization had already arrived.

The representative from the charity organization was a man in his forties named Mr. Dempsey, with a kind face. He had already been chatting with Gavin Monroe for a while, and they seemed to be having a pleasant conversation.

When Ivana arrived, everyone’s attention turned to her.

"Ivana is here?" Gavin Monroe was very happy.

"Grandpa." Ivana looked at Gavin Monroe, who seemed a bit better than a couple of days ago, with a healthy glow on his face.

Silas Joyce’s eyes brightened with excitement upon seeing Ivana.

Silas introduced Mr. Dempsey to Ivana.

Mr. Dempsey politely said, "Hello, Ms. Monroe."

Ivana smiled, "Hello."

The donation went smoothly. Mr. Dempsey took out documents from his briefcase and clearly wrote down the donation amount, then handed a camera to Silas to help take a group photo.

Ivana did not appear in the photo, only Gavin Monroe and Mr. Dempsey, both smiling. Mr. Dempsey’s expression towards Gavin Monroe was full of gratitude, acknowledging the positive energy and kindness passed on by the elder Mr. Monroe to families in need in impoverished areas.

After the donation was completed, Mr. Dempsey and Silas left first, while Ivana stayed to spend more time with her grandfather.

Silas walked out of the Monroe family estate and saw a striking red Bugatti Veyron parked conspicuously at the entrance. He frowned slightly; this was a limited edition luxury car, hard to buy even for those with money. Given Ivana’s current company situation, selling the company wouldn’t even afford such a pricey car.

Silas found the car’s license plate somewhat familiar, and after a moment he recalled, Leon Keane drove a silver Bugatti Veyron. Could it be that this red one was a gift from Leon to Ivana?

Then what was the relationship between Ivana and Leon...?

Silas felt as if something was blocking his heart, causing discomfort and pain.

He smiled wryly, thinking back to university when Zachary Heston appeared, making him miss the chance with Ivana. And now Leon Keane appears again, is he going to miss Ivana once more?

In the bedroom.

"Ivana, push me out for a walk." Gavin Monroe saw the sunlight outside the window was nice, matching his now bright and cheerful mood.

Ivana helped the old man into his wheelchair and pushed him into the back garden.

The old man’s face beamed with a smile, vastly different from two days ago: "Donating all the money made me feel instantly lighter, as if the weight pressing on me suddenly vanished."

These were the old man’s reflections after the donation, moreover, he felt that his money could help many people in need, which brought him comfort and satisfaction.

Ivana smiled, "Money isn’t important, grandpa’s health is what matters most."

Now things were better; those "rats" in the family who gnawed on bones wouldn’t think of ways to come and gnaw on grandpa’s old bones anymore.

No more bones to gnaw!

When Ivana left the old estate, Kimberly Monroe and Sylvia Monroe arrived by car, seeing a big red Bugatti Veyron coming out from the elder’s home, they were stunned, regretting not seeing who was in the driver’s seat.

Kimberly said, "The old man still knows such wealthy relatives? How come we didn’t know?"

Sylvia pouted, "The old man is something else, doesn’t introduce us to such wealthy relatives, let us benefit from it a bit."

The two complained for a while, parked the car at the old estate, and went in with supplements to see the old man.

Ivana had just arrived at the company when she received a phone call from Phil, asking if the fashion items were ready?

Just the finishing touches were left on Phil’s fashion items. If Leon hadn’t dragged her off to get the marriage license and take wedding photos yesterday, she could have sent them today.

"Almost done, I’ll send them to you tomorrow."

"Great! Babe, love you!"

Hearing that Ivana would send her beloved fashion items the next day, Phil dropped her goddess demeanor and even uttered the cheesy word "babe."

Ivana got goosebumps all over from hearing this, hung up the phone, flipped through the address book, and found Ivy Linden’s number and dialed it.

She and Leon were getting married, Ivy Linden and Stacy Floyd were her best friends in Ravenswood, she needed to tell them and invite them to her wedding.

Ivy’s phone wasn’t answered, and only until the mechanical female voice sounded, did the phone automatically hang up.

Ivana frowned, feeling a bit uneasy; nothing should be wrong with Ivy, right?

She dialed again, but still, no one answered.

Ivana panicked.

About three minutes later, Ivy called back.

Ivana quickly answered, "Hey, Ivy, why didn’t you answer my calls? Did something happen?"

Ivy’s voice was a bit nasally, "No...nothing."

Ivana wasn’t a fool; how could she not detect something was wrong with Ivy’s tone? Her voice didn’t sound as crisp as before, hinting that she might have been crying.

Ivana felt a pang of heartache, and softly said, "Ivy, did you just cry?"

Ivana’s words triggered Ivy, and tears started falling uncontrollably. Ivy didn’t dare make any sound over the phone since the sound of sobbing was unpleasant.

Ivy covered her mouth tightly, but little sobs still reached Ivana’s ears through the phone.

Ivana silently waited until Ivy’s sobs stopped.

Ivy said painfully, "Ivana, I feel like I can’t hold on much longer."

Samuel Lockwood treated her well, but no matter how good the relationship, it couldn’t withstand Aunt Lockwood’s antics. Even in the hospital ward, right in front of her, she said she was unsatisfied with herself because she was a hen that couldn’t lay eggs.

The patients and their families in the ward at the time looked at her as if she were a monster.

Ivana’s heart tightened, "Ivy, where are you now?"

Ivy wouldn’t tell Ivana, and only after being pressed did she say she was at the orthopedic hospital.

Ivana drove to the orthopedic hospital and found Ivy in the stairway corridor.

Ivy’s eyes were red and swollen from crying, and seeing Ivana, she hugged her and cried like a child in her embrace.

Ivana silently held Ivy, gently patting her back, letting her cry her heart out in her arms.

About ten minutes later.

Ivy’s emotions gradually stabilized, and Ivana was about to ask what happened when the stairway door was pushed open. A woman in her fifties, supporting a younger woman whose leg seemed bad, looked at Ivana with a flicker of jealousy in her eyes. Then she mockingly said to Ivy,

"Aunt Lockwood was thirsty and couldn’t find you; turns out you were hiding here crying? Anyone who doesn’t know would think you’re mourning a funeral! No wonder Aunt Lockwood doesn’t like having you as a daughter-in-law, such bad luck."

The woman with the injured leg was from bed number three.
