Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Life Is Hard, So Even a Luxury Car Becomes a Ride-hailing Cab
Jasper Sinclair saw the text message and his lips curled into an almost imperceptible smile.
This little one is quite cautious, he nodded contentedly and replied to her, "I called the car for you. Today, I’m attending the banquet with the company president. I saw you, but it wasn’t convenient to come over. It looks like you’re about to leave, so I arranged a car for you."
Satisfied with his reply, he reflected that he wasn’t exactly lying. He was attending the banquet with the company president, though the president happens to be himself.
Upon receiving his response, Nora Northwood calmed down.
She exhaled in relief, her small face relaxed, and she flashed a polite smile at Aaron Lowell.
"They’ve come to pick me up, Uncle. No need to worry, I have some things to attend to and I’ll be heading off now. Please kindly inform Lily for me."
Aaron Lowell pressed his lips together and nodded. He wished to know who this Mr. Sinclair was, whether a suitor or someone else, but his relationship with Nora wasn’t close enough to ask outright.
Nora smiled and bade him farewell.
As she got into the car driven by Louis Hayes, she couldn’t help but gasp.
These days, people driving luxury cars are working as ride-share drivers? Life truly isn’t easy.
Looking at the information coming from her phone.
She didn’t feel angry that Mr. Sinclair didn’t come to find her; after all, he had his own work.
The car steadily delivered her to the residential area entrance. After expressing her gratitude, she returned home.
A little later, Jasper Sinclair returned as well.
As soon as he pushed open the door, he noticed Nora leaning over the coffee table, absorbed in a book.
He raised an eyebrow, feeling quite surprised, while the little figure on the sofa seemed unaware of his presence.
With light steps, he walked over, curious whether she was intentionally posing in front of him or genuinely engrossed.
Standing behind her, it looked as though he was encircling her in an embrace from the front.
His strong arms enveloped her small frame, creating a picturesque scene.
The warm glow of the table lamp softened her profile considerably.
Perhaps noticing the shadow cast beside her, she turned her head cautiously.
Their eyes met, and hers held a trace of vigilance, her luscious lips slightly moistened from being bitten.
Jasper Sinclair instinctively felt a desire to kiss her and only realized after a moment what he was thinking!
"Mr. Sinclair, you’re back." Seeing it was him, Nora finally relaxed.
She had been too engrossed earlier to notice someone had returned home.
"Hmm." He nodded, glancing at the book before her, "Are you still studying?"
He raised an eyebrow at the woman beside him.
Nora didn’t feel flustered or awkward at being noticed, and she nodded openly, "I couldn’t study previously due to family reasons. Now that I have the time and capability, I want to complete my studies."
She always believed a person should have some educational qualification.
Jasper looked at her, his eyes unusually filled with a bit of admiration.
He had glanced just briefly and realized this woman was genuinely studying, which caught him off guard.
"Next time you want to study, go to the study room." He took off his jacket and carefully laid it on the sofa beside them.
After he spoke, Nora paused for a moment but quickly responded, "Okay! By the way, I made some hangover soup for you. Though it looks like you didn’t drink much, have some to warm up."
She had assumed Mr. Sinclair would have a drink or two at such events, but it appeared he wasn’t affected at all.
Jasper Sinclair touched his nose.
Given his status, naturally, there weren’t any reckless people who would dare approach him for drinks; it depended entirely on whether he wanted to or not.
