Chapter 52: Chapter 52: It’s All Fake
Her gaze shifted to his hand, and she couldn’t help but heave a sigh of relief.
No ring.
"Yeah, I’m married. It hasn’t been long," Jasper said truthfully, not intending to hide the fact from his friend.
"Sinclair, did you have a fight with your wife? I noticed you’re not even wearing a ring," Wendy chimed in at the right moment, but unfortunately, she overestimated herself.
"What’s it to you?" He sneered, casting a disdainful glance at her. Did this woman think he was that stupid?
Wendy’s face turned pale. Even she knew she wasn’t welcome here. Biting her lower lip, she made up an excuse about having something to do and quickly left.
There’s plenty of time. Her father had already secured her a job at The Sinclair Group. She believed Sinclair would surely recognize her worth over time.
Once she was gone, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"But seriously, your marriage was pretty sudden." Finn downed his drink in one gulp. "Why didn’t you bring her out?"
Letting out a cold snort, Jasper glanced at him but didn’t say anything more.
Finn had been his friend for many years, so he knew what this meant.
It seemed like this young wife didn’t meet his expectations. Finn didn’t pry any further.
The two chatted and laughed until past ten o’clock. Realizing it was late and thinking of Nora waiting for him at home, Jasper stood up to leave.
"You know, since you’re married, you shouldn’t always put on that icy face every day. It scares the little girl," Finn sighed and advised.
The car stopped outside the neighborhood. With tightly pressed lips, he didn’t respond to his friend’s advice but got out of the car and went straight in.
It was already late. Usually, Nora would have gone to bed by now, but tonight she was still waiting for him on the sofa.
He couldn’t quite describe the feeling, but there was a hint of guilt in his heart.
"You don’t have to wait for me next time; you can just go to sleep," he awkwardly said.
Due to previous events, Nora didn’t speak to him. She just went to the kitchen to serve him a bowl of hangover soup, then went into the room.
He felt inexplicably annoyed. He hadn’t done anything wrong!
In a fit of pique, he gulped down the hangover soup, washed the bowl, put it back in the cabinet, and went to bed.
In the following days, every time Nora called May to inquire about the situation, she’d also ask which hospital she was in, intending to visit.
At first, May found various excuses to dissuade her. Later, Quentin simply answered the phone himself, telling her not to bother coming, yet occasionally still asking her for money.
She vaguely felt something was off, but if she asked May directly, she’d surely get nowhere.
So she decided to visit the Ford Family to see for herself and ask them directly.
This time, without informing May beforehand, she took a taxi to the Ford Family’s neighborhood. Before reaching the entrance, she saw May chasing after Quentin.
His steps were steady, showing no signs of illness.
"Honey, you can’t go. Half the money that girl gave us is already lost!" May was anxious.
In recent days, it seemed like Quentin had been tricked. Every time he went out to play cards, he lost, but the more he lost, the more he wanted to go. May was at her wit’s end.
"Get lost! I’ve got a good feeling today, don’t you dare mess up my mood!"
With a kick, Quentin sent May sprawling, then left humming a tune.
Standing from afar, how could Nora not understand what was going on?
The string in her heart snapped completely, and a wave of grievance surged up, leaving her at a loss for words. She turned and went back to Southwood Court.
Today she didn’t even want to go to the flower shop; all she wanted was to have a good cry.
She thought that even if May wasn’t as good to her as before, she was still her real mother and wouldn’t deceive her.
But who knew it was all fake!
