Chapter 296: Chapter 296: Kyle Sinclair, Julia Sinclair’s Younger Brother
The young boy had delicate features, his complexion as pale as someone who had been confined to a hospital room, never seeing the sun. He held an "injury report" in his hand, and when he saw Leon Keane, his gaze was weak and glistening with moisture.
Leon Keane did not recognize this boy, but the boy’s features gave him a sense of familiarity, as if he had seen them not long ago.
Leon Keane was not a man of curiosity. He withdrew his gaze and began to walk away, not planning to engage with the unfamiliar boy.
"Mr. Kane." The boy suddenly called out to him.
Leon stopped in his tracks.
The boy walked up to Leon, his eyes shimmering with tears: "Mr. Kane, I’m Kyle Sinclair. My sister used to bring you to the hospital to see me, you called me Kyle, do you remember?"
Kyle Sinclair?
Leon Keane was slightly stunned. He remembered, even though at that time, Julia Sinclair had only introduced him to Kyle Sinclair twice. But Kyle’s gravely ill appearance left a deep impression on him.
It was from then on that he decided to help Kyle, and he gave all his spare cash to Julia to fund Kyle’s treatment.
Back then, the doctor had asserted that Kyle wouldn’t live past twelve, and even with enough money for treatment, he wouldn’t live past eighteen.
The current Kyle should be over eighteen now.
Leon Keane’s handsome face broke into a smile: "It’s so good to see you, Kyle."
The tears in Kyle’s eyes quickly condensed into droplets, rolling down his delicate cheeks. His legs trembled slightly, wanting to kneel before Leon, but he remembered his sister’s words, that one should maintain dignity, and that no matter how dire their circumstances, one should not let illness strip away their pride. The humble can never stand alongside the noble.
He couldn’t risk disgracing his sister, making it impossible for her to ever stand beside Leon Keane.
As long as he was alive, he could repay Leon Keane in other ways.
Kyle said joyfully: "Mr. Kane, thank you for remembering me. And thank you for helping fund my treatment back then."
Leon Keane reached out and patted Kyle on the arm: "Don’t say such things, just being alive is good enough."
Moved to tears, Kyle’s hand trembled, and the "injury report" fell to the ground.
Leon bent down, picked up the "report" from the ground, and upon seeing the words "injury report," he noticed the content on it, furrowing his brow: "Kyle, did you fall? So severely?"
Kyle wiped his tears with the back of his hand and shook his head: "This isn’t mine, it’s my sister’s ’injury report.’ She was pushed down the stairs yesterday and got hurt badly."
Leon Keane’s elegant face suddenly turned cold: "Did Julia tell you? That she was pushed?"
Kyle felt a chill from Leon Keane’s body, and he shivered: "No, my sister asked Jack Quinn not to tell me. I found the ’injury report’ myself and questioned Jack Quinn repeatedly before he told me the truth."
Afraid that Leon Keane might misunderstand, Kyle added: "Jack Quinn is my attending doctor."
Upon hearing this, the chill around Leon Keane gradually dissipated. He asked Kyle: "Why are you holding the injury report and coming here?"
Kyle seemed a bit nervous, lowering his eyes like a child who had done something wrong: "I was holding the injury report because I wanted to go to the ward to see my sister. On the way, I saw Mr. Kane, and I couldn’t believe my eyes, thinking I had seen it wrong, so I followed."
Leon Keane returned the "injury report" to Kyle, his fingertips touching Kyle’s cold palm, and he frowned: "You’re dressed so lightly and wandering outside, go back to your ward! Don’t let your sister worry."
Hearing Leon Keane’s concerned words, Kyle’s face did not show joy. He hesitated, wanting to ask Leon Keane: Mr. Kane, my sister is so seriously injured, aren’t you going to see her?
If Leon Keane cared about his sister, he would surely ask him now which ward his sister was in or ask him to take him there.
But he didn’t.
Kyle watched as Leon Keane walked away. His fingers gradually formed a fist, nails digging into his palm. He suddenly diverted his gaze, looking hatefully toward VIP Room 2.
He had followed Leon Keane here, and had seen with his own eyes Leon entering VIP Room 1 first and then bringing a young boy into VIP Room 2. Leon spent no more than fifteen minutes in VIP Room 1 but stayed in Room 2 for nearly two hours.
The woman residing in VIP Room 2 was the one who pushed his sister down the stairs.
He and his sister depended on each other; his sister was the person he cared about the most.
The resident of VIP Room 2 had maliciously harmed the person he cared about most. Kyle swore he would never let the mother and son in VIP Room 2 go unpunished.
Kyle took the "injury report" to Jack Quinn’s office.
Jack Quinn saw Kyle looking dejected, holding the crumpled "injury report," and frowned: "Kyle, what happened? Did it not go well?"
Kyle bit his lip, his eyes moist, and said sadly: "Mr. Kane has changed, he doesn’t care about my sister anymore."
Jack Quinn knew that Julia still held feelings for Leon Keane to this day, or she wouldn’t have remained single all these years.
Feeling jealousy towards Leon Keane, Jack Quinn noticed Kyle’s hurt expression and comforted him: "Kyle, don’t be sad. Leon Keane is a philanderer, changing women in Ravenswood faster than he changes clothes. Even if your sister stayed with him, there wouldn’t be a good outcome."
"Your sister deserves a better man to cherish her."
Kyle suddenly turned angry and said, "I won’t allow you to talk about Mr. Kane that way. Mr. Kane is my savior. He just changed his mind. If he were willing to marry my sister, she’d be the happiest woman in the world."
Jack Quinn didn’t expect one derogatory remark about Leon Keane would evoke such a fierce reaction from Kyle.
Kyle needed to stay in the hospital long-term, relying on medication to sustain his life. Although Jack Quinn felt displeased that Kyle couldn’t see the reality and stubbornly defended Leon Keane, he didn’t dare argue back, fearing that he might upset Kyle.
Kyle was Julia’s life.
If something happened to Kyle, Julia would go after him no matter what.
Jack Quinn said, "Okay, okay, I won’t speak ill of Leon Keane. Kyle, don’t get upset, it’s not good for your health."
Kyle gradually calmed down.
Jack Quinn continued, "You should return to your ward and rest. Remember, don’t tell your sister about today’s events. If she finds out I handed the injury report to Leon Keane and you took over this job, she would skin me alive."
Kyle said, "I won’t say anything."
Jack Quinn nodded: "Okay, make sure to stay put in the ward in the future. Don’t wander out like today; your body can’t handle it."
Kyle: "I know my limits."
As Kyle left Jack Quinn’s office, Jack Quinn suddenly felt an uneasy premonition, as if something major were about to happen, especially judging by Kyle’s expression as he left, indicating he had made some sort of decision.
